The City of Forest Lake has recently purchased No Fault Sewer Backup Coverage at no cost to its residents. Under the policy, the City of Forest Lake will reimburse the property owner for cleaning and damages caused from a City maintained sewer main backup or a City maintained water main break irrespective of city negligence.
If you have a sewer backup and do not know where the blockage is, you should contact the City’s Utilities Department 24 hours a day @ 651-209-9743 before contacting a drain cleaning company. Doing so may avoid an unnecessary charge if the problem is in the City’s sewer line rather than in your property’s service line. A Public Works employee will be able to determine where the issue is located.
As a resident, you can play a key role in preventing sanitary sewer backups. To help prevent backups, please dispose of the following items properly, not by dumping in a drain or flushing down the toilet:
- Disposable/flushable wipes
- Sanitary napkins
- Rags or shop towels
- Garage waste products such as oil, grease, gasoline, antifreeze
- Household waste such as ashes, grease, corrosives, glass, metals, paint, poisons, or solvents
- Yard waste such as sand, soil, or mud.
