Accessory Structure
An accessory structure is a building subordinate to the principal structure on the same lot. Accessory structures include, but are not limited to, garages, sheds or other storage type’s buildings or structures. A zoning review is required for all accessory structures. A building permit with plan review is required for all accessory structures over 200 square feet in floor area.

Addition
Additions are generally constructed to increase livable area in a residence. Additions can include a single room or space or an entire floor with several rooms. A zoning plan review and building plan review is required for all additions.

Finishing a lower level is generally to increase livable area in a residence. Basement finishes can include a single room or space or an entire floor with several rooms. A building plan review is required for all basement finish projects.

Decks are used to increase livable area on the exterior of the home. A zoning plan review and building plan review is required for all decks.

Doors and Windows
A permit to replace an existing door and/or window can be issued at the City Hall building & zoning counter anytime between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday.
A new window or door where the structure must be modified may need to go through a plan review.

HVAC
Installation of new HVAC equipment or system(s), replacement of HVAC equipment or equipment connected to gas piping requires a mechanical permit. Most residential mechanical permits can be issued at the building & zoning counter at City Hall anytime between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday.
Mechanical permits for commercial projects may need to go through the review process.
